Next STEAG Meeting Monday March 20, 2017

The next STEAG meeting is
Monday March 20, 2017 at 7:00 pm, 
St Andrew's' United Church, 60 West St, St Thomas ON.
Please bring your fee of $25.00 to join. Everyone welcome.


The Agenda for March will include: 
·         2017 Executive:
Vice President – needs to be filled.
Treasurer – needs to be filled (Marcia Pensa will help volunteer).  Signing Authority updated
Show Convener – needs to be filled (Joyce will help volunteer)
·         Refreshment List – volunteers needed for each meeting
·         Membership List – any new changes should be given to Kit Cutting
·         Speakers List – guests have been arranged for April/May/June
·         Art Show Debriefing (what went well, what could improve for 2017) – Joyce Rintoul
·         Policy & Procedures (review/discuss in March and approve in April) – Elizabeth Bourque
·         Constitution & By Laws (review/discuss in March and approve in April ) – Elizabeth Bourque
·         History of the Art Guild  - Elizabeth Bourque
·         Dues for 2017 – $25 with money/receipts done at break
·         Next Meeting is scheduled Monday, April 17th (confirm)

St. Thomas-Elgin Artists’ Guild 10th Annual Show & Sale

Just in time for Christmas, the St. Thomas-Elgin Artists’ Guild presents its 10th annual show at the CASO Railway Station in downtown St. Thomas! Original work by a diverse group of very creative local artists working in a wide variety of exciting media. Meet our artists, enjoy our tearoom featuring delicious treats, and make your art choices as you browse in this unique building. Something for everyone and admission is free.

Announcements/Events from Sept. 19th, 2016 STEAG Meeting

STEAG Annual Art Show
·         Joyce Rintoul noted there are still a few volunteer times to fill in over the show weekend.  Baked goods are needed to be dropped off Friday of the show weekend. 
·         Hardcopy submission sheets for the STEAG Art Show should be handed in at tonight’s meeting or the October meeting (with fees).  Reminder: Artwork size includes the frame.  Please submit Artist Bios at the same time to Bonnie McLean.
·         Nilestown signs (not Van Pelt’s) did the advertising this year. There will be an artist’s sign, a sign at Giant Tiger and a banner on CASO for the show.  Carol McGrath will be writing an article. Marcia will ask the newspaper if they will do an article in the Weekly News (as in previous years).
·         Sue Garrington has agreed to be a judge at the show. 
·         Please note: matted work needs to be in crystal clear bags (purchase at Gunthries/Curries) with acid free cardboard backing for displaying on racks. Wires (D rings) need to be on the back of art for hanging, taped on the edge to prevent scratching other artworks. Oversize is 24” wide and up.
·         Robin Baratta circulated a sheet asking for information on the number of racks (and size) available for the show. Please let Robin know if you have a rack. Racks/Stands should be labelled with your name.
·         Please sign up for advertising drop off locations, take posters and distribute the information locally everywhere.  Advertising has started and will continue.  Members can also create an event on their Facebook pages and share a few weeks before the event.

Acrylic Art with Heather Keating Saturday, September 24 at the St. Thomas Library from 11-4. The theme is landscapes (examples available or bring a photo) $30 fee for supplies if needed. Contact Heather to register and get a materials list. Heather also has weekly sessions in her home for $20 per session with materials supplied.

Katherine Medlyn is providing free stained glass classes for youth ages 14-17. Contact Katherine for dates/times for beginner and advanced classes.

Announcements/Community Events from Aug. 15th, 2016 STEAG Meeting

STEAG Annual Art Show – Joyce Rintoul noted hardcopy submission sheets for the STEAG Art Show should be handed in at the September/October meetings with the fees. They can also be mailed (with fees) to Marcia Pensa. Please submit Artist Bios at the same time to Bonnie McLean. Thanks go to the volunteers donating art pieces for the draw at the Annual Show: Elizabeth Bourque, Jerry Cutting and Catherine McCoy. S’ine Maule reported entertainment has been arranged for the Show. Heather Keating will contact judges do the Judges Award (unless someone else would like to volunteer). If you have any names to suggest, please forward.

Signup sheets were available at the meeting for members to volunteer their time during the Art Show. Members are encouraged to participate as much as possible.

After members voted on the art at the meeting, the following were announced as having the most votes with Jerry Cutting to take the pictures for the Annual Art Show poster. Painting by Diane Dobson “The Cradle” mixed media and sculpture by Bonnie McLean “Falstaff” polymer clay and fabric.

Announcements from STEAG July 18, 2016 Meeting

STEAG Annual Art Show – Joyce Rintoul reported members can vote on the selection for the poster art at the August meeting. There will be one 2D piece taking 2/3 of the poster size and one 3D piece filling the other 1/3 on the advertising for this year. As per arrangement, two large paintings have been given to CASO by Robin Baratta and S’ine Maule. Nicole Arseneault was not able to follow through with membership or participating in this event. Members should have received sign-up sheets and labels (add numbers yourself to correspond to art) to complete and hand in with cash for entries at the Oct/Nov. meetings. This year, the Rotary Club is also hosting an event the same day as our Annual Art Show in the room to the right of the entrance. This should not cause any conflict and may increase traffic to our event.

Halls Creek Festival of Creativity-Ingersoll, Call to Artists for Sept. 10/11 event at Centennial Park, Ingersoll from 11am to 5pm both days. Application deadline is July 30 with $90 fee but booth can be shared. Contact Mary-Anne Murphy at mm@oxfordcreativeconnections.com

Historic Weekend Renaissance (War of 1812) near Pearce Park in Dutton, July 23/24 will showcase Kit’s work also.

STEAG Programs & Workshops: Heather Keating reported Catherine McCoy will confirm if she can present at the September 19th meeting, sharing her Walk in Spain work. There will be no guest speaker at the August meeting.

STEAG Annual Art Show – Joyce Rintoul asked members to bring in their art for voting at the August meeting for the piece to be selected for the poster. Jerry Cutting will take the photo of the art that gets the most votes and will be used for the Art Show advertising. Discussion: Do we want one art piece for the poster or more than one? 2016 Art show may also have representatives coming from City Council (hopefully the mayor) as it is the 10th annual year for the show.
